“A little bit of summer's what the whole year is all about.”
  -  John Mayer

Ah, the glories of summer! We all wish those languorous, golden days could go on forever, don’t we?

But don’t worry – you have some summery days left before the season bids adieu for the year. There is still plenty of time to enjoy the season, and that means there are still plenty of things that you can do with your little one.

If you want to make lasting memories with your kiddos before they go back to school and you start your busy schedule, now is the ideal time!

LET’S GO ON A PICNIC

The best thing about summer is enjoying being outdoors. And one of the best ways to spend some fun outdoor time is to go on a picnic!

A picnic is the perfect way to spend time with your family on a lazy summer afternoon. You get to relax and gorge on yummy goodies while enjoying nature with your little one. Put some food in a basket or a cooler, go find a grassy spot somewhere, plop down, and have a meal.

A picnic is also a great way of introducing your kids to new and healthier foods – and a good opportunity to wean them away from fast food. Try sandwiches with crunchy veggie fillings, vegetable sticks with a variety of dips, or healthy salads. Eating outside fills kids with so much glee, they won’t even bat an eyelid!

GET ALL STARRY-EYED

Those mild summer nights are perfect for gazing at the stars, aren’t they? With clear skies and an earlier setting sun, now’s as good a time as any to gather blankets and take the kids outside for a good night of stargazing and mastering astronomy.

You don’t need any special equipment or knowledge to stargaze. All you need is a dark sky and an open horizon. Just lie back and look up – it's amazing what you can see!

To kick off, start with the moon. After all, it's Earth's best celestial buddy, and it's big enough to see without binoculars. Then try finding the visible planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Download one of the many awesome astronomy apps available, such as Star Walk or Sky Map, that tell you what you're looking at.

It’s the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with your child and teach them about the wonders of our universe!

This amazing kid’s guide to stargazing is all your budding astronomer will need:

SCAVENGE FOR NATURE’S BOUNTY

Nature scavenger hunts are an excellent way to spend time with your toddler this summer. You get to marvel at the world around you, while also having fun!

Nature scavenger hunt helps get kids involved in exploring their environment. They can be done at home or in the city, on or offline, by an individual or with a group – the possibilities are endless!

Find a nearby park, forest, or other natural space. Bring binoculars if you have them and a notebook for documenting what you find.

Make a list of natural items you aim to find. You might want to start with things like rocks, plants, insects, and animals. As the items are found, check them off on your list. There is a dazzling array of things to find and explore in nature!

POPSICLE/ SMOOTHIE/ ICE CREAM SUNDAE BAR

For all kids, summer equals ice cream, are we right? So, make the most of the remaining summer days by creating a counter full of icy treats!

Children adore popsicles and sundaes, and they love to participate in the making process, so why not let them create their own popsicles, ice cream sundaes, and smoothies this summer?

On a large table, set out different ingredients and toppings like hot fudge sauce, chocolate chips, sprinkles and whipped cream. For the smoothies and popsicles, you’ll simply need a blender, some soft fruit, yogurt or milk.

Apart from the fun factor, this lets you sneak in some nutritional goodness by adding berries and fresh fruit!

CAMPING IS COOL

Your little one will love connecting with nature in the great outdoors!

There are so many great nature trails and national parks in America that offer camping areas, from the Appalachian Trail to Shenandoah National Park.

Your kid will adore the experience of spending time outdoors while you set up camp, explore new terrain, and cook over a campfire. Plus, they'll have plenty of opportunities for outdoor games like tag or hide-and-seek!
